Pre-Holiday Trading

Christmas bisects the week and trading will be dull.

PRE-OPEN MARKET COMMENTS MONDAY – The market is gaping up this morning. The first look at Q3 GDP will be posted tomorrow along with Durable Goods orders. This will be the big news event for the week.

Wednesday European Banks will be closed and the US will have a half session. Thursday is Christmas and many traders will also take Friday off.

Light volume typically pushes the market higher into year end. This price action is all program driven and portfolio managers mark up positions. There will be some sector rotation and window dressing.

The gap up this morning could stick, but I would not dive in. Sellers have been able to move price and they are always lurking. Be patient and wait for a bid check. Use the first hour to find strong stocks. If we get that small pullback you will have a decent entry point and you can enter. If you don’t get the pullback, it might be best to just let the market run. This is not a high quality move.

Europe was down and Asia was up. The results are mixed so there is not much of an international tailwind.

Support is the high from Friday and resistance is the all-time high.
