Top 20 Options Traded

at eOption in April 2022

May 3, 2022

Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride continued into April which is typically a time for positive spring outlooks with consumer spending coming out of the winter thaw.  Markets across the board were in decline and there was no safe haven in other assets classes such as fixed income or crypto.  The tech-heavy NASDAQ slumped over 13% with Netflix and Amazon both tanking on bad news.  Negative sentiment carried the DOW down 4.9% and the S&P down 8.8% on continued inflation fears, the war in Ukraine and disappointing outlooks on the economy.

One of the biggest “get your popcorn for the show” stories in the month was Elon Musk’s bid to buy Twitter.  The deal terms laid heavily on his Tesla stock as collateral for the deal.  Although not a done deal, it does appear that Elon, not surprisingly, will prevail.

The chart below shows the relative performance differences between 6 top tech stocks in April (TWTR, NFLX, TSLA, AAPL, AMZN & MSFT)

Returning to the top 20 in April are Chipotle, Netflix, Bank of America, AMC and Micron.  New to the list are Occidental and Costco.
