Top 20 Equity Options Traded
in Feburary 2023
March 6, 2023
Markets started strong as we entered February, but the enthusiasm waned by the end of the month with all major indices ending up in the red. The Dow saw the biggest losses as growth and tech names “outperformed” with slimmer losses. Specifically, the Dow shed 4.2%, while the S&P fell 2.6% and the Nasdaq slipped 1.1%. Equities sold off after inflation concerns sparked a rise in Treasury yields. The US Fed, European Central Bank and Bank of England all increased rates in the month.
Here is a chart comparing relative ETF performance of the Dow, Nasdaq and S&P for the month of February 2023.
We see the usual suspects again in the top 20 with TSLA, AMD, AAPL, META, AMZN, NVDA, MSFT as your favorite trades. The rally in techs continued early in February but fizzled late in the month. TSLA was a clear winner continuing a strong rebound, up over 80% this year.
Online auto-retailer, Carvana, fell back to earth shedding 14% of market value after reporting growing debt and continuing to burn cash. Coinbase continues to be volatile along with the price of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. The SEC and Chairman Gensler has been showing its teeth this year indicating a position to regulate the asset class in the US.
