U.S. futures are mixed following some good earnings results overnight, but also some mixed responses, keeping U.S. futures in-line as market participants await the conclusion of the 2-day FOMC policy meeting results later today. Investors expect the Federal Reserve to keep policy and asset purchases unchanged, but will watch closely to indications of when the Fed might begin to trim its $120 billion in monthly asset purchases and its outlook on inflation. In Washington, President Biden is expected to ask Congress for an additional $1.8T for spending on healthcare, childcare & education as he addresses the nation later tonight in his first 100-days in office, according to reports; will pay for the additional spending through tax hikes; will recommit he won’t increase taxes on household making under $400k. U.S. stocks finished mixed on Tuesday, with the Nasdaq and S&P 500 index each falling from all-time closing highs the day prior as the earnings barrage in tech land gets underway. The Dow Jones transportation average jumped to a new record closing high, on track for a record 13th straight week of gains, while the homebuilder index also settled at an all-time best. In Asian markets, The Nikkei Index gained 62 points to 29,053, the Shanghai Index gained 14 points to 3,457, and the Hang Seng Index jumped 129 points to 29,071. In Europe, the German DAX is up over 50 points to 15,305, while the FTSE 100 gains about 20 points to 6,965 in another strong session for European markets.
