U.S. stock futures have stalled after two days of market chop, as the U.S. Federal Reserve wraps up its 2-day FOMC meeting Wednesday afternoon with broad expectations for a 25-bps cut, though fed fund future expectations have grown for a possible bigger 50-bps cut. Wall Street will also be eager to hear Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s remarks at a press conference following the decision, which begins at 2:30 p.m. ET. The Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq all closed lower on Tuesday, pulling back from record highs as investors await Fed’s rate decision, snapping the 9-day win streak for the Nasdaq 100 (QQQ). In stock news, China has told its biggest tech companies including Alibaba not to buy the Nvidia (NVDA) AI chip tailor-made for the country, the Financial Times reported. In Asian markets, The Nikkei Index slipped -111 points to 44,790, the Shanghai Index rose 14 points to 3,876, and the Hang Seng Index jumped 469 points or 1.78% to 26,908. In Europe, the German DAX is up 18 points to 23,347, while the FTSE 100 is up 20 points to 9,215. December gold prices slid -0.65% to $3,700 an ounce, off record highs into Fed. Looking ahead to the end of the week, Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to speak on Friday.
